Martial Arts

Choi Kwang Do is the style of Martial art taught at our school. It is a dynamic, innovative approach to martial arts training that has been developed to focus on the areas of optimum health, self-defence and personal development. Based on traditional martial arts philosophy that emphasises the ideal of personal and social development rather than sports competition; Choi Kwang Do classes provide a safe and non-competitive environment for students that helps them to grow not only physically, but mentally too.

The development of good manners, courtesy, self-discipline, self-confidence, and good social adjustment can be considered primary objectives of this art, along with the development of practical self-defence skills.

Founded by Grandmaster Kwang Jo Choi in 1987, Choi Kwang Do is the culmination of Grandmaster Kwang Jo Choi’s 50 years of martial arts experience and studies. The techniques and concepts of this art are considered very non-traditional, with studies in the areas of psychology, kinesiology, and biomechanics used to form the basis for all Choi Kwang Do techniques.

As an art, Choi Kwang Do continues to evolve. As new information on health, fitness and improved training methods are discovered and developed, they may be formally integrated to the Choi Kwang Do training system.
